The Cardiff City FIFA 19 ratings we would change

It’s that time of year. The latest installment of the FIFA video game franchise is out and people start to lose their shit. That’s particularly the case in South Wales this year, as Cardiff City fans are excited to see the Cardiff City Stadium in the game for the first time.

As with every incarnation of the most popular football video game, there are some differing opinions about the player ratings. Should Eden Hazard be rated higher than Mohammed Salah? Should Gareth Bale be in the top 30 players in the game (for sure)?

At View From The Ninian, we’ve been debating the Cardiff City player ratings and which of those we would alter.

At 74, Ralls-Royce is one of Cardiff’s highest rated players, but we can’t help but feel that he deserves an extra point or two. 75-76 would be a more accurate representation of Ralls, who is undoubtedly one of Cardiff’s most important players.

I think when Junior Hoilett gets 75, it’s easy to see why we think Ralls should at least match him. In the Premier League, a rating of 75-76 would put Ralls on par with Will Hughes and Tom Cleverley.

Joe Bennett

I’m really struggling to see how Greg Cunningham is rated at 74, but Joe Bennett is at 71. In our opinion, whilst both were among the best left-backs in the Championship last season, Bennett edges it.

The Englishman is keeping the former-Preston man out of the side this season – we expect him to be restored to the starting lineup come Sunday – and has shown his capability of playing at Premier League level.

A rating of 74-75, where we think Bennett deserves to be, would see him on par with Joe Bryan, Marvin Zeegelaar and Barry Douglas in English football.

Lee Tomlin

The former Bristol City man – who was the Bluebirds’ marquee signing last summer – has shown little to suggest he deserves to be rated at 71. That rating gives Tomlin the same rating as Bennett, Callum Patterson and higher than Josh Murphy.

While Tomlin has unquestionable technical ability, his lack of fitness, work rate and end products means, in our eyes, he should be knocked down to maybe a 69 rating on FIFA. That would put him on par with Anthony Pilkington, a fairer reflection in our eyes.

Josh Murphy

The new signing from Norwich has impressed immensely in the minutes he’s played so far in the Premier League. Undoubtedly Cardiff’s most dangerous player, we believe that Murphy deserves a ratings boost on FIFA 19.

His ratings still reflect him as a Championship player and, somewhat unfairly, three marks behind his twin brother Jacob (72).

Josh’s potential rating of 76 is more in line with what we expect from him, but a starting rating of 71 would be more accurate in our eyes.
