Josh Murphy, Cardiff’s summer recruit from Norwich City, impressed in the recent friendly against Real Betis, notching a fantastic goal in the first-half. The winger spoke to the media after the game – this is what he had to say.
Josh Murphy on Cardiff’s performance against Betis:
“Our fitness is getting there. It was a good run out against a really good Real Betis team. We held our own and could have earned a better result. The team did well. The midfield lads were great. If they’re not playing, well I can’t do my thing on the ball. Credit to Sol (Bamba) in there. He’s not a natural midfield player, but he was a machine in there. Rallsy, Bobby and Patters battled for the team and worked hard for Junior and I in attack. I relish playing for this team. I feel completely settled in and everybody is getting on to the same wavelength.
On the start of the Premier League season:
“Personally, I’m raring to go. If we can do it against Real Betis, who are a top quality team, we can mix it with the big boys. Hope we can match Bournemouth and come away with the points. I was surprised by the turnout from the fans and how vocal they were. I was happy to repay them with a goal. I just focused on making sure my shot was on target and thankfully it went in.”
On working with Neil Warnock:
“I love his coaching. The gaffer seems to take some stick from outside the club for the kind of manager he is, but he has been so welcoming to the new players and the boys will run through brick walls for him. It’s great to see the way he gets his squad together. That’s second to none. His togetherness with the boys shows on the pitch, everybody wants to run a mile for the gaffer.”
On facing twin brother Jacob in his first home game:
“That will be a good day for my family, but hopefully not for Newcastle and my brother. We want the points. We go in to the season as underdogs, but we relish the chance. Some people will write us off I’m sure, but the way we played today, if we can carry on like that, we’ll surprise a few people. We held our own today. Yes, there were a couple of sloppy mistakes for the goals, but if we nullify those, we’ll have a chance.”
