A couple of Premier League games for Willock last year led him to prominence but Emery hasn’t entrusted him this year. Arsenal know about the benefits of loans – Reiss Nelson in Germany, anyone? – and he could be a decent signing, offering us something, fresh from bagging a brace in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Bournemouth – Jordan Ibe

Bournemouth have a whole host of players we’d be interested in. Gosling was mentioned in the summer and Defoe was someone Cardiff fans admired from afar. But Ibe seems to be a player in and out of the squad under Howe. No loans allowed here so maybe a cheeky bid for a decent attacking player, with a lot of potential to fill?
Brighton – Ezequiel Schelotto

The Argentine-Italian almost left Brighton in the summer but any potential move fell through. He’s 32 but would bring quality as well as experience to the right back slot.
Burnley – Matej Vydra

Prolific at Championship level, Burnley paid £11m for Vydra, 26, in the summer, but have been thus far reluctant to actually use him. He played for them in the FA Cup, but has only made two Premier League starts all season. A shrewd loan target.
Chelsea – Ethan Ampadu

The golden boy of Welsh football, Ampadu needs first team football. Is it too soon to stick Ampadu into a relgation fight? Maybe. But he has the qualities to bring a lot to Cardiff and would be adored by the fans.
Crystal Palace – Joel Ward

Right-back Ward played under Warnock at Palace and the current Cardiff manager also tried to sign him when was Leeds manager, with Ward at Portsmouth. Needs game time, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka first-choice at Palace. Would the Eagles let Ward join a relegation rival though?
Everton – Oumar Niasse

A name linked to Cardiff in the summer, Everton striker Oumar Niasse seems the perfect front-man for Warnock’s Cardiff. He’s fast and has an eye for goal, which is what Cardiff need. Needs game time.
Fulham – Aboubakar Kamara

AK47 – as he is known at Fulham – has been an important player for Fulham in recent weeks, but reports suggest that Claudio Ranieri is so angry with the forward for his penalty debacle against Huddersfield. If that is the case, Cardiff should put their hat in the ring for a forward who can cause real damage.
Huddersfield – Danny Williams

It hasn’t quite happened for German-born, American-international Danny Williams at Huddersfield. The 29-year-old defensive midfielder has been hampered by injury this season, but the former Reading man would offer a smart solution in a problem position.
Leicester – Danny Simpson

A Premier League winner, Simpson is somewhat of an outcast at Leicester now. Good enough for one more Premier League move and would be an upgrade on Lee Peltier.
Liverpool – Divock Origi

Clyne was the dream right-back signing, but now he’s out of the picture, it may be worth Cardiff having a think about Divock Origi. The Belgian international striker is out of contract in the summer and Liverpool are looking to cash in before he walks away as a free agent. A long shot because he is liklier to have sexier options, but you never know.
Manchester City – Eliaquim Mangala

Aim high, right? Any number of players from Man City would be good – Zinchenko, Diaz, Aguero. But the former two seem destined for bigger things. Mangala seems out of the frame at the Etihad and needs games. Yes, he’s probably better than us in terms of gravitas but he’d be guaranteed games here. Something that might tempt him ahead of a sure-fire move away from the Citizens.
Manchester United – Timothy Fosu-Mensah

While Fosu-Mensah hasn’t set the world on fire at Fulham, and has now been sent back to United in place of Cahill, he’s clearly well thought of. A few caps for Holland and from the Ajax academy, he’s got some decent years behind him. His utilitarian edge means he could be deployed at right-back – where we need a player – or at CB or even in midfield. A decent option for a 6 month loan.
Newcastle – Yoshinori Muto

Japanese international Muto was signed in the summer from Mainz and hasn’t really set the world alight. One goal in his opening 12 games isn’t a great record. But he’s obviously got pedigree and needs games to get a run going. Newcastle are unlikely to loan a big money signing to a relegation rival but he’s worth a look.
Southampton – Shane Long

A pain in Cardiff’s arse in the past, is it time to bring Shane Long on board? Perpetual motion, chewing gum all the while, Long has only started five league games for Southampton this season, but regularly appears from the bench. Now 31, he wouldn’t be a long-term investment, but is Premier League ready.
Tottenham – Vincent Janssen

Remember him? Once a big money signing for Spurs, the Dutchman has flopped for the Londoners, but there’s surely a player in there. You don’t win the Johann Cruyff trophy for nothing. A fresh start could be what Janssen needs and Cardiff could offer that.
Watford – Andre Gray

Gray may well represent the golden ticket for Cardiff. Strong, quick and powerful with an eye for goal, basically everything a Cardiff striker needs. He remains on the periphery of the Watford side under their new set-up and Cardiff have been linked with him in the past. Here’s hoping something might happen here.
West Ham United – Ryan Fredericks

Probably the best right-back in the Championship last year, Fredericks joined West Ham United on a free transfer in the summer. He’s played just four games this year after suffering an injury against Huddersfield. He’ll need first team football to get back to 100% and Cardiff could offer that.
Wolves – Leo Bonatini

Bonatini was signed by Wolves last season and scored 12 goals on their march to the Premier League. With Wolves seemingly favouring Jimenez, and linked with Abraham, Bonatini could be kicking his heels in the Midlands. He’s worth a punt and a loan move could give him the impetus he needs.
