Player Ratings – Arsenal 2, Cardiff City 1

Neil Etheridge

http://gty.im/1091003406

Another big personal display. Loving life in the Premier League and building a reputation as a safe, efficient and athletic goalkeeper. A couple of outstanding saves 8

Lee Peltier

http://gty.im/1091003840

Strong, aggressive, competes with intensity. Defensively solid and worked to push forward in support, although found it more difficult than Bennett on the other side 7

Bruno Manga

http://gty.im/1091034578

Manager Warnock told the centre-back to be careful with his penalty area challenges, but his clumsy intervention conceded a second half penalty from which Arsenal scored. That loss of focus was a pity because Manga produced a decent performance overall 6

Sol Bamba (capt)

http://gty.im/1091009704

The big defender knew Emiliano Sala through their agents. He had chatted to Sala at Cardiff’s training ground. His disappearance has affected Bamba, but he was able to produce a brave and committed display at the back 7

Man of the Match – Joe Bennett

http://gty.im/1090994390

It’s been a hugely difficult week for Bennett, whose father died a few days ago. He was, though, immense. Defended well and pushed forward at every opportunity 8

Aron Gunnarsson

http://gty.im/1091184502

Returned alongside Arter in midfield after missing the 3-0 defeat at Newcastle. Got stuck in and broke up many Arsenal attacks 7

Harry Arter

http://gty.im/1090959472

Hugely competitive and effective. Made life difficult for home players with his movement and passing. Booked for the eighth time this season 7

Joe Ralls

http://gty.im/1090959564

With Victor Camarasa missing, Ralls linked with Gunnar and Arter. Ralls looked a player lacking confidence e not too long ago, but he is regaining his best form and that’s great to see 7

Bobby Decordova-Reid

http://gty.im/1091026078

Earned his place with a bright performance off the bench at Newcastle. Played just behind Niasse and that role suits him. Went close a couple of time and needs a run of matches now 7

Callum Paterson

http://gty.im/1090938094

With Niasse leading the attack, Paterson played on the right of midfield. Did well defensively and going forward, but missed a couple of chances 7

Oumar Niasse

http://gty.im/1090932014

Settling in nicely. There is pressure on City’s signing from Everton because it seems unlikely Warnock will be able to bring in another forward following the disappearance of Emiliano Sala. Held the ball up well and that will add an extra dimension for City over the rest of this season 8
