Player Ratings – Cardiff City 1, Southampton 0

Neil Etheridge

Calm, assured and clean sheet. One of City’s major successes this season. Good saves, decent distribution including one magnificent kicked clearance which released Murphy down the left 8

Bruno Manga

http://gty.im/1069831242

Manga was immense. Decisive and effective. He is going to play a major role in City’s battle to survive in the top tier. He has all the quality needed to succeed at this level 8

Sean Morrison (capt)

http://gty.im/1069822348

Captain Fantastic and Warnock’s man of the match, saying ‘He didn’t make a mistake’. A leader who gathered his troops around him and earned a win that was far more convincing than the score suggests. Effective when he moved forward for set pieces – but his headers flew well off target 7

Sol Bamba

http://gty.im/1069823804

Big Sol was back to his best. Played alongside Sean Morrison and together, along with Gunnarsson just ahead of them, kept things tight at the back 8

Joe Bennett

http://gty.im/1069825110

Never seems to be flustered. Composed, steady and solid when defending. Set a high standard with his passing on a wet and windy night 7

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

http://gty.im/1069812472

The winger has power and pace, giving Saints defenders some difficult moments. If he could find that extra bit of quality with his final pass or shot he would be a big Premier hit 7

Man of the match – Aron Gunnarsson

http://gty.im/1069828182

The man who locks this Bluebird steam together as a unit. Experiences and decisive, made crucial interceptions in front of the back four. Consistently effective 8

Harry Arter

http://gty.im/1069831180

Here, there and everywhere. Warnock said this was his best performance for the Bluebirds, Harry is the heartbeat of this team at times. Aggression, energy, commitment, intensity. Made some excellent interceptions and put the Saints under pressure in all areas 8

Josh Murphy

http://gty.im/1069816210

I love watching Murphy. He has pace, control and tricks. Saints could not deal with him in the first halt, but faded after the break. Growing into Premier football, but must learn when and when not to bring out those tricks. Lost possession at crucial moments when he tried something that didn’t come off 7

Victor Camarasa

http://gty.im/1069832146

The Spanish playmaker produced the pass which sent Paterson surging through for the winning goal. Hugely effective in the first half, when Cardiff were by far the better team, but seemed to fade after the break. Made up for that with his decisive pass 7

Callum Paterson

http://gty.im/1069823198

Strength and commitment took him past the challenges of two defenders before he slotted the winner. Wins a remarkable number of aerial challenges, chases everything and is an excellent outlet for the Bluebirds 7
