Player Ratings – Cardiff City 2, Brighton 1

Neil Etheridge

The Filipino goalkeeper has been magnificent this season and loves playing Premier football. This wasn’t his best performance, but he had no chance with Brighton’s goal and made a couple of good stops. Still working hard on his distribution, which has improved 6

Bruno Manga

http://gty.im/1059858738

Warnock says Manga is City’s most consistent defender. Technically good, physically strong and has an awareness which picks him out as a Premier natural. Full-back isn’t his best position, but he’s doing a decent job. That was underlined when he moved to centre-back and joined Bamba after Morrison went off. He immediately looked cool and calm in his more natural role 7

Sol Bamba

Boom, boom Bamba. What a goal. Yes, he lost his man when Brighton scored to go ahead, but I’ll forgive him that after a performance in which he won big challenges, hit a post with his overhead kick and scored the winner 7

Sean Morrison (capt)

http://gty.im/1059821576

Big ‘Mozza’ had a physical tussle with Brighton’s Glenn Murray – and would certainly have felt the bruises after the game. Morrison had to go off with 20 minutes left when Lee Peltier went on and Manga switched from right-back to centre-back 6

Greg Cunningham

http://gty.im/1059859186

The victim of a terrible challenge by Stephens on 34 minutes. The Brighton man was sent off. This was Cunningham’s first Premier appearance since September and it was always going to take him time to settle. Grew into the game 6

Man of the Match – Kadeem Harris

http://gty.im/1059853112

Cardiff City FC named ‘Kads’ man of the match. Totally agreed, just ahead of Gunnarsson. Fantastic performance from a player who has been impressing Warnock for quite a few weeks. A first Premier start and Brighton were bemused at times by his pace and movement. Set up Paterson’s goal and smashed a shot against the bar 8

Aron Gunnarsson

http://gty.im/1059853770

‘Gunnar’ can always be relied upon. I listened to fans saying he was finished when he struggled for fitness earlier this season. What utter tosh – and he’s proving my point beautifully. Battles big-time, puts in big challenges and is simply a fantastic warrior 8

Joe Ralls

http://gty.im/1059854080

I would be pretty certain that if Arter had not been suspended then Ralls would have been among the substitutes at best. He has been suffering from a knee problem, spent three games out suspended and hasn’t been able to train properly. The guy, though, is a competitor, loves the Bluebirds and would have made his point to Neil Warnock, saying: ‘I’m ready.’ He was 7

Josh Murphy

http://gty.im/1059853982

Premier teams are learning about the threat from Murphy and are keeping a close eye on him. Now he has to push on again and surprise defenders now and again. He has pace to burn – and acceleration that scares opponents 6

Victor Camarasa

http://gty.im/1059854586

The guy is a technically excellent footballer and growing into his different role at Cardiff. He was a back-up man at Real Sociedad, but now his football instincts are a major part of Cardiff team developing their passing game. The kingpin in midfield for City 7

Callum Paterson

http://gty.im/1059815780

Goal number three for the Scottish international. Needs more support in attack at times, but he works hard and makes what he can of limited service. Wins a major share of aerial duels and is doing a great job at centre-forward right now. If Warnock sticks with Paterson in that role he will need to find a way of giving him support in the long-term 7
