Player Ratings – Tottenham Hotspur 1, Cardiff City 0

Neil Etheridge

Has had a good season so far. Made some smart saves, but has to work on his distribution. His kicking was a danger to Spurs with Paterson winning aerial battles, but too often they were off target 6

Joe Bennett

http://gty.im/1046703794

Recalled in place of Cunningham, who was left out of the matchday squad. Was given a difficult time by Tottenham’s wide men, but stuck to his task in what was always going to a tough test 6

Sean Morrison (capt)

http://gty.im/1046584294

Astonishing clearance off the line to deny Moura, who looked certain to score. Wonderful. How did the ball stay out? Taken off throw-in duties at Wembley, but headed against a post when Cardiff were down to 10 players. City kept Harry Kane out and the Bluebirds remain the only Premier team he has played faced and failed to score against 7

Sol Bamba

http://gty.im/1046703796

Outjumped Spurs centre-back Sanchez at a first half set-piece, but his header flew over the bar. Moved into attack during injury time when Cardiff were chasing the game, but this was a day when City’s luck was out 6

Man of the Match – Bruno Manga

http://gty.im/1046584576

The cool, calm and collected Gabon was a key player at right-back. He has deceptive pace and athleticism and when Lucas Moura broke fast it was Manga who cut out the danger. Impressive 7

Harry Arter

http://gty.im/1046593022

Never stops running and competing. Booked for a fourth time this season and is one from a suspension. Gunnarsson is fit to return and was among the subs, which is a major plus for manager Warnock with Ralls suspended after his red card and Arter close to a one-game ban 7

Joe Ralls

http://gty.im/1046604676

Sent off for pulling back Moura, whose pace took him away from the City man. Does the dirty jobs well, tracking back to deny Spurs on several occasions. Committed and competitive, but he lost focus for a second and could not complain about seeing red 5

Josh Murphy

http://gty.im/1046705654

Clever, quick and deceptive player. Spurs Danny Rose will have nightmares when he thinks about the times Murphy went past him or nutmegged the full-back. Adapting to life in the Premier and looks capable of causing real problems for defences 7

Callum Paterson

http://gty.im/1046587352

Immense. Won his aerial duels against Spurs’ defenders and caused the home team problems. Ralls’ dismissal left the Scot playing on his own in attack with Hoilett faced to drop back into midfield before he made way for Danny Ward 7

Victor Camarasa

http://gty.im/1046498704

Played wide in midfield. Whipped in a delightful cross for Morrison, whose header was turned onto a post by goalkeeper Lloris. The Spanish player adds much-needed quality through the middle 6

Junior Hoilett

http://gty.im/1046562162

Returned to the team after illness kept him out of the match against Burnley a week earlier. Asked to lead the attack, linking with Paterson. Lacking confidence, but kept battling 6

Subs: Brian Murphy (gk), Jazz Richards, Danny Ward (for Paterson 78), Kenneth Zohore, Bobby Decordova-Reid (for Danny Ward 85), Aron Gunnarsson, Kadeem Harris (for Hoilett 78).
