VFTN reacts to the new kit

After a summer of people tweeting ‘ANNOUNCE NEW KIT’, Cardiff City has just gone and done it. The Premier League shirt has been revealed and…it’s a good shirt, Brent. Here are our initial reactions:

Ben Isaacs:

‘A big thumb’s up from me. And not just because it’s blue in the top flight for the first time in decades. It’s because it’s classy, it’s simple, it’s smart. A big improvement on last year’s with its incongruous navy stripes down the body. This one takes its cues from the season before that, a shirt that deserved better than Paul Trollope. I love the Bluebird below the back of the collar too. It’s personal touches like that that take it out of the dreaded ‘template ghetto’.

‘I’m not a white shorts purist and I don’t demand yellow as an accent. I don’t even mind the Visit Malaysia font, especially because it looks a letter better on this shirt because of the white stripes. Just let me buy one now, please.’

Ben James:

‘Immediate thoughts are that it’s a classy little number isn’t it? I didn’t expect the subtle hoops but I like the accented blue. The collar is simple but class and, overall, the design is simple in its beauty. We were close with our predictions but I’m happy that our shirt has it’s own unique elements to it. A plain blue shirt will never be wrong in my eyes – but this subtle detail has made it an instant winner in my eyes’

Nathan Walker:

‘A kit fitting of a Premier League side. It’s nice to see a change from just the one shade of blue and that we get to enjoy a two tone number for a season. I’m also a sucker for a fully blue number so this one might have to be bought.’

Scott Salter:

‘Pretty much to be expected. Solid, if unspectacular. It’s nice to see the stripes on the shoulders make a return and the bluebird on the back is a lovely touch. I actually really like the faded stripes across the shirt, it brings a nice touch of contrast. The ‘keeper kit is knockout, too.’

And Twitter seemed to be happy too:

But one particular Twitter user – we see you Daniel Bevan – was doing all sorts of digging and theorising:
